Heni Oktaviani

Indonesia

Heni is a medical doctor and a graduate of Airlangga University in East Java. She describes herself as driven by a passion for healthcare and making a meaningful difference in people's lives.

Her decision to pursue medicine was profoundly influenced by an article she read while in high school, which highlighted the news of 35,000 children dying in the eastern Indonesian province of Nusa Tenggara Timur from diarrhea, a largely preventable condition. She says, “This deeply moved me and solidified my resolve to contribute to a future where such events could be averted.”

While a student she actively sought out opportunities to expand her horizons and gain diverse experiences. She was selected for a research exchange program in Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark, where she delved into the field of neurology and explored neuropathy research. She also secured a place in a clinical exchange program in cardiovascular surgery in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. These international experiences honed her clinical and research skills and deepened her understanding of global healthcare systems.

Her passion for continuous learning was evident even before she entered university. In high school, she’d demonstrated an early aptitude for science, winning the Physics Olympiad in the Malang region. Her most recent studies focus on movement disorders in neurology and addiction issues in pediatric neurology.

Heni has worked as a general practitioner at Udayana Hospital in Bali, providing care in ward and emergency settings, and at Grand Family Hospital PIK Jakarta, primarily supporting maternal and child health. She served as a research coordinator assistant in the Neurology Department at RSUPN Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo, where she contribute to groundbreaking studies and educational initiatives.

Aside from her professional endeavours, Heni is committed to serving underserved communities. As Chief Operating Officer of ACEI Indonesia, a non-governmental organization, she leads initiatives in health promotion and ecotourism for rural areas.

Joining the Angels team aligns perfectly with her vision and aspirations, Heni says. “The legacy built by the Angels team in enhancing stroke care services is deeply inspiring. I am eager to contribute my skills and dedication to help improve stroke outcomes, enhance the quality of life for patients, and strengthen healthcare systems.

“I firmly believe that by working together, we can continue to create impactful change in the lives of many.”
